Kommandó/Comandău

Kommandó/Comandău

This strangely named little village is the highest Hungarian settlement in the Carpathian Basin, at 1017 metres above sea level. Its name dates back to the time of the monarchy, from the word Graenzkommando, meaning border post, as it is situated at the very tip of the country's border.

Kommandó/Comandău is a small village in Szeklerland, in a real wilderness area of Covasna County. It is surrounded mostly by forest and is still home to many wild animals, including deer, roe deer, fox and of course bears. The village is also visited by hunters, but mostly by those who wish to explore untamed nature. Hiking opportunities abound either on foot or by wagon, snowmobile or off-road vehicle.

The fastest way to reach the highest peak in Covasna County, Lakóca/Vârful Lacauți, at 1777 metres, is from Kommandó/Comandău. It is not difficult for nature lovers and can be reached by a longer or shorter hiking trail.

Kommandó/Comandău is an exciting tourist destination in winter and summer for those who are looking for active recreation, and Kommando Camp is a truly unique accommodation with modern, well-equipped and comfortable rooms: an ideal choice for groups, small and large groups. In addition to the facilities provided by the municipality, there is a sports field with night lighting, a Jacuzzi in the form of a hot tub, a sauna and a tent for events.
